Privacy Policy

NRI Rishtey ("we", "us", "our") operates the NRI Rishtey matrimonial website and mobile application (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the information you provide directly, information generated by your use of the Service, and information from third parties involved in delivering the Service.

a) Account Information

Email address, mobile number, password (stored as a one-way bcrypt hash, never in plain text), who the profile is being created for, and country/phone code.

b) Profile Information

Full name, date of birth, gender, height, marital status, religion, caste, diet, city/state/country of residence, "about me" description, family details (family type and related information), and your partner preferences (age, height, religion, caste, location, education and income ranges you're looking for in a match).

c) Education, Career & Astrology Data

Highest education, occupation, employer and annual income. If you choose to add horoscope details (date, time and place of birth, nakshatra, rashi), we use this to calculate Kundali/Ashtakoot compatibility scores between you and other members, including via a third-party astrology data provider (see Section 3).

d) Photos

Profile photos you upload are stored on our servers/CDN and shown to other members according to your photo visibility setting (visible to all members, or protected/on-request only).

e) Activity & Communication Data

Interests you send, receive, accept or decline; chat messages you exchange with matches; which profiles you view; your online/last-seen status; and, if you use the WhatsApp/contact-reveal features, a record that a contact number was viewed.

f) Payment Information

When you purchase a membership plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card number, CVV or full payment credentials — these go directly to Stripe. We store only the plan purchased, amount, date and a Stripe transaction reference, so we can activate and support your membership.

g) Technical Data

Login sessions (via a JWT access token), and standard technical data such as app version and device type, used for security and troubleshooting.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and operate your account and matrimonial profile.
• To show you potential matches and compatibility scores, and show your profile to other members.
• To let you send/receive interests, chat, and reveal contact details where you've chosen to allow it.
• To process membership purchases and manage your plan benefits (contact views, interest limits, etc.).
• To send account, verification, security and transactional emails (e.g. OTPs, password resets, payment receipts).
• To keep the Service secure, prevent fraud/fake profiles, and enforce our Terms of Service.
• To respond to your support requests.

3. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:

• Other members: your profile details and photos (per your visibility settings) are shown to other members so matchmaking can work.
• Stripe, Inc.: to process membership payments. Stripe's own privacy policy governs how it handles your payment details.
• Astrology data provider (Jyotisham Astro API): if you provide horoscope details, your birth date/time/place is sent to this third-party API solely to calculate planetary/Kundali data used for compatibility scoring.
• Email delivery provider: your email address is used via our transactional email provider to deliver OTPs, notifications and receipts.
• Legal requirements: if required to comply with a legal obligation, court order, or to protect the rights, safety or property of NRI Rishtey or our users.

4. Data Retention

We retain your profile and activity data for as long as your account is active. If you deactivate your profile, it's hidden from other members but retained so you can reactivate it. If you request account deletion (see below), we permanently delete your profile data, photos, messages and astrology data, except for payment/transaction records which we retain as required for accounting, tax and fraud-prevention obligations.

5. Your Rights & Choices

• Access & correction: you can view and edit most of your profile information directly in the app under Profile / Edit Profile.
• Photo visibility: control who can see your photos and phone number under Settings > Privacy.
• Hide profile: temporarily hide your profile from search and new matches.
• Deletion: request permanent deletion of your account and personal data at any time — see our Account & Data Deletion page.

6. Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text. Access to the app and API is protected using signed JWT tokens, and traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.

7. Children's Privacy

NRI Rishtey is a matrimonial service intended solely for individuals aged 18 and above who are legally eligible to marry. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn a profile belongs to a minor, we will remove it.

8. International Users

NRI Rishtey connects members across the global Indian community. By using the Service, you understand your information may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above, and where appropriate, notified to you in-app or by email.
